Ražanac, located 22 km northwest of Zadar, is a picturesque small fishing village on the Croatian Adriatic coast, known for its peaceful atmosphere and crystal-clear sea. Ražanac enjoys a pleasant Mediterranean climate with warm summers and mild winters. The air is known for its unique combination of sea and mountain currents, which is considered especially beneficial for the respiratory system. The average sea temperature in Ražanac is around 12°C during winter and reaches summer highs of 25°C to 26°C in July and August. In late spring and early autumn, the sea temperature is approximately 20°C. As for the air temperature, it rarely falls below 0°C in winter and can reach up to 30°C during the summer months.

The Bora wind in Ražanac, this small village located beneath the Velebit mountain range on the Adriatic coast, is one of the strongest and most well-known natural phenomena in Croatia. In this small village, visitors can still discover numerous remains from past centuries. Ražanac is particularly known for its findings from the Paleolithic period, dating back around 100,000 years. Most of these archaeological discoveries are now exhibited at the Archaeological Museum Zadar. The old medieval village was located about one to two kilometers south of present-day Ražanac, in the fields surrounding the Church of St. Andrew.

To defend against the Ottomans, a town wall was built in 1507, the remains of which are still visible along the coast today. Over time, houses and a new church were built around the wall, leading to the development of present-day Ražanac. To this day, the monumental tower, the entrance gate, and part of the side defensive tower of the Kaštelina Fortress have been preserved.

The settlement of Ražanac, with just under 1,000 inhabitants, has good infrastructure for a comfortable stay. In Ražanac there are several shops for daily necessities, a post office, a pharmacy, a dental clinic, and a medical practice. Visitors can also find cozy cafés, an ice cream shop, traditional restaurants, and a pizzeria, where they can enjoy Dalmatian specialties and Mediterranean cuisine.

In recent years, Ražanac has become the host of one of the most prestigious swimming competitions – the European Cup in long-distance swimming. This international sporting event, the European Aquatics Open Water Swimming Cup, brings together top swimmers from many European countries who demonstrate their endurance, strength, and technique in open water.

For the first time, such a European open-water swimming cup was held in Croatia, placing Ražanac alongside major European cities. The 10 km race takes place in September and features more than 60 swimmers.
